Don't dive at GameStop. They're extremely aggressive and will fight for their minimum wage job when the boss says they have to go into mortal combat defending the scratched disks and cut controllers in the dumpster or get fired.

We have dumpster divers at my warehouse but I already have a gentleman and his sons I contact to come get the things I get rid of. They make a good living off of dumpster diving. In the state I live in it is not illegal for dumpster diving as the law sees that once a business or household puts trash out it is no longer considered their property and there for up for grabs. The main reason businesses have a problem with dumpster divers is they do not clean up after themselves, and will leave items strewn outside of the dumpster while diving. Our company actually saves tens of thousands of dollars a year from dumpster divers so we do not have to continuously dump our 40 yard dumpster each month but once every three months.

They ALL get paid to throw away their products. That’s why they don’t others picking. And btw, a “ No Trespassing” sign, is only effective for the building not the dumpster. Its public once they throw away unless a lock is attached. All confirmed with attorney and law enforcement. Any employee’s or anyone who is aggressive or touches period is automatic assault and should be reported to the police. Assaults are 100% against the law in all 50 states.

Stores often devalue substantial amounts of perfectly good food and merchandise for various reasons, all meticulously recorded in handheld inventory control devices. Corporate accountants then utilize this information to write off billions of dollars annually against corporate tax liabilities.

Once marked for disposal, the merchandise undergoes a transfer of ownership, no longer belonging to the store. Surprisingly, it becomes the property of the taxpayers of the United States of America.

Any attempt to claim ownership, be it by trespassing on private property (which is, in fact, private but accessible to the public) or suggesting it belongs to the store or refuse company, could be considered grand theft and/or receiving and concealing stolen property.

The stores go to great lengths to keep people away from dumpsters and compactors to prevent the widespread knowledge of their practices. While the complaints of the poor and homeless often go unheard, those from the general public are a different matter—one that stores undoubtedly prefer not to deal with.

Therefore, the claims made by others are inaccurate and uninformed individuals.
