There’s always one person that ruins it for the rest. Glad they look after their own citizens ❤

The unfortunate part is that anyone not respectful of other people is not watching this video.

The citizens should get priority over random tourists.
Ofcourse don't be rude to the tourists either.

Respect one another, no one is superior than another person

“…ban tourists from a traditional part of Kyoto called Gion.” This is just patently false. There is one small alley that is off limits to tourists last I checked. Tourists are not banned from the entire area of Gion. Please influence responsibly.

I hate that they have ruined this for a lot of us

¿What about those who are foreigners working & living in Japan, practice Chado (tea ceremony), and are deeply involved in the world of chado in Gion?
I have a friend who is this exact description, to the point that she is regularly invited by Geiko Houses to perform tea ceremony with them.
When I visited Kyoto in October 2022, she invited me to join a small group for a tea ceremony with her chado Sensei in Gion.
I assume in this type scenario, despite me being a tourist and her being a foreigner, we would be welcome to be in Gion, correct?

P.S. she and I know each other because of an international group of people who have learned the art of dressing in kimono & learned the art of Chado; we are also well aware of the etiquette of not taking photo or video of Geiko or Maiko without their permission, and when we were leaving from the tea ceremony in Gion and saw a Maiko in a taxi going to her appointment, she nodded at us (dressed in tea ceremony kimono), and we nodded back to her, without any photo taking.

From my experience it's usually one of two types of people who make for horrible tourists; Brits and Americans.

...And I say that as a Brit whose had to deal with Americans taking flash photography while hogging a local landmark for Instagram.

Rude narcissistic Karen’s cramming cellphones in Japanese citizens faces & stalking them in public in attempt to control their every action 😖

I honestly believe Kyoto should only be accessible to Japanese residents and foreign leaders of course other than that you know they should crate like an outer area of Kyoto where they can set up brand new stuff where people will will go there instead. Also in this scenario maybe it can be reopened again but maybe like a hundred plus years from now when the population of Japanese residents actual Japanese origin residents drop severely down then they'll have probably no other choice but to either actually maybe just don't let people go there anymore as soon as the decline happens just keep it like a sanctuary statue Monument area type of mentality where no one should cross

It's literally just a tiny street in gyon. There is pretty much nothing there. No way people go there just to take photos. Most likely they just stumble accidentally in there.

Also I've been to gyon and it's pretty much women who behave terrible... Like chasing women in kimono and doing creepshots from behind, nice

Can’t blame the tourist. We went to Gion just for the sake of catching a glimpse of geisha girls.
Nowadays, every thing are commercialised with pay for experience basis ☹️
