Not sure if it will work for the AVP, but on Q3 if you buy a $10 IR floodlight, it will work in pitch black darkness.

One of the best features not many talk about is that this is 100% an iPad replacement (and a doomscroll replacement for iPhones too)

If you bring the screen closer to your face, you can swipe/drag/touch, etc like an iPad or iPhone screen but it’s the size of a tv.

I'm with you on the point that this product makes me excited to see what Meta will come up with next. Meta should just copy what Apple is doing for the OS and improve on it's flaws. If Meta releases a Quest Pro 2 which is basically the Apple Vision Pro for much cheaper, it'll be a massive success for non Apple-ecosystem people.

Same boat buddy. Keeping mine as well. For all the same reasons stated and the same History. (Except my point of entry was the original Vive and 1st Gen Rift). The price IS tough but after about 12 different VR headset purchases I consider THIS to be the real first true generational leap from VR's initial onset. Yes, quality improved, do-dads were added, but the "VR Headset" was virtually an unchanged beast until this came along. (Screens-Controllers-Games). What's hard, as I'm sure you have already discovered, is trying to describe the incredible sense of Prescence that this device gives that is 100% lacking in any other headset. (But I have NOT tried the high-end Varjos or XTAL's). It's a truly different and unique beast that just looks (from the outside) the same as all that came before. But it does seem to be the start of a whole different journey down a brand new path. I'm happy to be a part of it as well.

Like the original iPhone, the first iteration of the Vision Pro is expensive and hard to justify at $3, 500. “Future Version 4” will have a stronger app portfolio and likely cost half as much and twice as fast. We’ll see.

this would probably be impossible but if apple created a virtual phones, watches, and computer for the apple vision I think people would want to spend 3k easily on it

If you like Vision Pro and not regret it at this stage, just wait until more apps made for the device. That is when VR/AR outperformed any other device and rendered them obsolete even though is pretty uncomfortable to wear

It is very impressive and I’m glad it exists - to push the tech forward and normalize vr.

But I kinda don’t understand what it will be used for long term. I have a hard time believing people are more productive in their virtual space than just a multi monitor setup. It can only mirror one monitor from your Mac, which would be an instant dealbreaker for me.

Then there’s content consumption. How many Disney movies do I care to watch? None is the answer. Especially in isolation.

Gaming is almost nonexistent. Maybe if steam vr with index controllers gets implemented.

Until then, Quest 3 is a standalone and pcvr king.

Edit: For $500 meta is giving you insane value.

Def not a product i will get, but as someone who has a quest2 im happy a new player has joined the arena. A big hitter like Apple being in the space is a great way to push this tech to the next lvl.

im very convinced by the vision but for me the biggest fear is that Apple will handle it like the iPad. not giving it enough freedom to get the most out of the hardware. getting real desktop apps, getting support for more input devices, getting a real file explorer and not taking games serious enough. and the worst fear, slow updates to the software. basically not building on the potential this device has.
if apple really wants this to be a full fledge computing device i think it will at some point also need the ability to sideload apps. i truely believe that its capable of one day replacing your MacBook but that cant happen if apple limits this artificially

It would be funny if the displays were as bright as real life on a sunny day, and then you couldn't use your apps because of glare! Just like your phone / laptop are almost unusable in the sun!
I do wonder how hot the aluminium might get in the summer if you are using the pro outside!
