I have a theory:
So the reason the nether princess/Abigail is now the nether princess is quite simple. I think when in “the struggle” she got bowed in the had, it hit something in her head and she lost her memory. So General Naeus realized she was very strong he took this as chance to power the arsenal of the nether. This was done by tricking Abigail into thinking she’s a nether princess as she doesn’t remember Rain. This is shown, when in “We are the danger” and “just so you know” she has no recollection of Rain as she shows no remorse or sympathy beating up Rain not so ever.
