Freedompop Review of Compeletly Free Cell Phone Plan 2015

That's right, 100% Talk, Text, and 4G LTE believe it or not...

In this video I share with you my personal experience with Freedompop in the two weeks I've been using the service.

There are many plans upgrades to choose from if the totally free plan isn't enough for you (and it probably isn't).but even with the available upgrades - you're still going to be saving a ton of money on your mobile plan.

Very helpful review. Thanks for the detailed info without being overly nuanced. I've ordered a Freedom Pop phone but am still keeping my current phone and plan and will compare the two before I decide.

FreedomPop Phone Premiere already comes with FreedomPop Wifi Hotspot (at least from what I see under my account), so you don't need to pay the extra $3.99 for the service since you are already paying $9.99 for FreedomPop Phone Premiere. Also the bar for the data plan is red because you went over the 1 GB of 4G LTE data and are being throttled at slower 3G speeds, but still have unlimited data to use. You can also get more data (and I'm assuming it adds more fast LTE data to use for the unlimited plans too) is by adding freedom friends and getting an extra 50 MB per friend added up to an extra 500 MB per month which means you would get about 1.5 GB of LTE speeds if you do that.

+Analisa Martin, Thanks for your input here. Yeh, I've been using Google voice for at least 5 years - it's awesome! However, I never thought about combining the two to save me even more money. I don't remember reading about the Visual Voicemail until your comment today. Cancelling FP's unlimited talk/text for GV may work. I'll give it some thought.

Thanks for asking Greg. Yeh, I've bee dragging my feet on the followup video on my personal experience. I think a person should give them a try if saving money is their sole reason. However, I do know that a lot of my calls were blotchy in some areas where you would think the signal should be strong. I didn't eliminate that problem until I upgraded to the premier (I think that's the highest upgrade). Yes, I am still with Freedompop right now but once I get my invitation to buy my OnePlus 2 phone, I'll stick with FP.

Thanks for the review. I just ordered a Galaxy S4 and also got a Otterbox. Is my firs time using Freedompop. I still have Tracphone and my service is less than $10 a month so hoping the free plan will work for me.

Why do companies still use the term "UNLIMITED" when the data is limited! Courts need to fine these companies up the ying yang!

My major issue with Tracfone has always been the phones are pre historic. I see they are finally starting to upgrade with bring your own phone. but they have been more than slow about it.

I use the Freedompop Photon-Platinum. In my line of work, I need to have internet access on the go and I've had good service from it for a little over a year now.

Square trade offers warranties for phones for much less than $7 a month. Also the case that charges is nice. However, if you don't mind carrying another small device around with you there are a huge number of battery storage devices for as little as $10 that have similar capacity. Not as slick and handy but much cheaper. Also works for most any device. I keep one in my car as a backup for emergencies.

I haven't actually used the freedom pop service yet. I am an extremely low usage customer so I ordered a phone from another vendor (Samsung Victory but compatible) for $40. I live in a fairly rural area so it may not work for me. But it's worth the gamble to eliminate a $40-$50 a month bill and it gives me data which I currently don't get. Win win if it works halfway decently.

Your data is showing red because your plan includes 1gb of high speed data and unlimited throttled (slower) data after that. Your screen shows you are at 1.22gb of usage. How is the call quality? I want to get this for my dad.

+Met Rivers Hoping for an update on your FP experience. Interested to know if you still have the service? How much are you saving? Is there a noticeable quality difference?   Would you recommend someone else switch?  Have you learned anything more about FP's service that would be useful to share with someone thinking of trying FreedomPop?

It's red because you went over your 4G allotment, it just means you are at 3G until your next billing cycle, not a big deal :)
