Other good places in or near Berkeley:

VIK's - Indian chaat and other dishes. This is the place that introduced chaat to the U.S. Food quality is great, prices are good. No frills at all (no table service, paper plates, disposable flatware). There's an Indian grocery attached to it.

Gioia Pizza - On Hopkins, about half a block from Monterey Market. Some of the best New York style pizza in the Bay Area. Their mushroom pizza is great.

Taqueria Talavera - On Solano in Albany, very close to the Berkeley border. They have two types of mole, both of which are excellent: mole poblano and mole guajillo. Their posole is also great. Many other fine dishes.

Sichuan Style Restaurant - On Solano in Berkeley. Many excellent dishes, including braised preserved turnip with eggplant, and Chongqing noodle soup. Be careful ordering if you're sensitive to spicy food, because some of their dishes are pretty hot. Also, be aware that service can be a little slow sometimes.

You ate like queens! If I had eaten like that when I was there I would have had to drop out and gone to community college ;) I actually liked how you started with more typical college fare - Top Dog, Cafe Durant, Durant food court. Wish you'd shown one of those Top Dog sausages like the Brat or Bockwurst, that was truly the stuff of late night food runs. Also, liked your nice shots of the Campanile, Wheeler, South Hall...this was travel book quality. Thanks for the memories...
