there's this historical fiction book called shogun by james clavell and it has one of the best female characters. her name is mariko and her story arc is awesome. she plays a huge pivotal role in shogun

I love The Mermaid and Mrs Hancock by Imogen Hermes Gowar, about an 18th century courtesan, and The Essex Serpent by Sarah Perry a gothic tale about science and obsession

I always love your historical fiction videos; I get some great recommendations from them as HF is my favorite genre. Since I was a teenager in the 1960s, I think the 1940s should be the cutoff for books considered historical fiction lol.
