A nice beginners guide to linux and its good to see a intro to LibreOffice, I'm a big fan of it!.. our family use it on Mac & Linux desktops.

Indeed I've hardly used MS Office since the early 2000s when I was doing a course that came with a licence copy of StarOffice. I then discovered that Sun had open sourced StarOffice and relabeled it OpenOffice and subsequently got permission to have a copy of OpenOffice at work to test alongside Microsoft. It did everything I needed and from then on I was hooked on OpenOffice. I then converted to LibreOffice some years later when the OpenOffice/ LibreOffice fork happened. I've been a user of LibreOffice ever the since and I thoroughly recommend LibreOffice as _the_ go to application for office. Its key success is having a very high quality community behind it.

great video, great software. well, I'm a windows user. I ones used open office, later I got into windows office 2013 usage, it was great and got used to Microsoft office. unfortunately, I never found it to be reasonable in price. now I got this software, I think I won't go back to ms office at all.

Yes I agree that it's an excellent replacement for MS Office. Have used it for school papers, resumes, and the like and the recipients have never had a problem opening them and reading them exactly a I've created them!

Little tip to make LibreOffice even faster: disable Java in the options (Tools>Options>LibreOffice>Advanced), it doesn't need it anymore.

Hello Rob ! I am watching your early videos and this one has a lot of flickering.
You can be sure I'll check it later ! :):):)

My experience is that the documents are almost always compatible with any version of office from 2007 on, unless you have something really weird inserted in the document.

Impress is a little trickier, but doable. Word art comes sometimes comes out and sometimes doesn't. Animations are also problematic. But if they are using Office 2010 and higher, impress is 95% compatible. If I'm doing a presentation somewhere and I've never used their equipment before, I made a pdf of my presentation as a back up. It's come in handy a couple of times.

The good news is that Libre office is now portable and I put portable editions on every body's computer where I do presentations. Problems solved! Check out portableapps.com
