Lanakila Mangauil was born and raised in Honokaʻa, Hawaiʻi. In addition to being active at Pu’uhonua o Pu’uhuluhulu, and the many marches and rallies throughout the pae ʻāina, Lanakila has held over 75 workshops worldwide on the mana`o and mo`olelo of Maunakea, along with teaching Maunakea protocol. He graduated from Kanu o Ka ʻĀina charter school. For more than a decade, he has taught Hawaiian studies at public schools and colleges, and for community and international groups. He is the founder of the Hawaiian Cultural Center of Hāmākua and serves as the Executive Director where he continues to share ‘ike Hawaiʻi.
