Kelan Martin 17 Points Full Highlights (12/28/2019)

The Timberwolves and Cavaliers must not have gotten the memo that this is the year 2019 and that they are NBA teams, because they ignored the offense-heavy direction the league has been going in recently in this game. 94-88 in the Cav's favor was the final score, not the most pathetic score ever, but depressingly meager compared to the totals some teams put up with ease. And I get the feeling that the low score wasn't the result of any great amount of defense being played; both teams just had a rotation full of cruddy players. I can imagine lineups of this sort near the end of the season, but late December seems way too early for this kind of stuff to sully the reputation of the NBA.
The Timberwolves, without Karl Anthony-Towns or Andrew Wiggins, really struggled to find scoring tonight. Jeff Teague was just about their best option to do much of anything, after him, a surprising amount of bucket-getting responsibility went to Kelan Martin and Shabazz Napier. Napier wasn't very successful, but Martin stepped up (sorta) and got a new career high with 17 points.
My tone in the first two paragraph might not indicate it, but I'm pretty hyped right now. This dude looks like he could be Karl Malone's forgotten son (yeah, I know, there's that one NFL player who is REALLY his forgotten son, but let me have this one), he has a really sweet floater (that we only got to see go in one time tonight), and he's out here defying whatever minimal expectations Minnesota fans had for him by almost leading his team in scoring. 20 points in a single game is a goal that I think he can reach by the time the season's over.
He might not have a choice; I see a heavily-armored and indestructible tank blazoned with a Timberwolves logo on the horizon, and sticking out of the little hole at the top is Martin, a WW1-era helmed perched askew on his head and a gigantic cigar dangling out of his mouth.
