Tracie Bennett, Janie Dee and Imelda Staunton play the magnificent Follies in this dazzling production. Featuring a cast of 37 and an orchestra of 21, Stephen Sondheim’s legendary musical was directed by Dominic Cooke and filmed live on stage at the National Theatre in 2017.

New York, 1971. There’s a party on the stage of the Weismann Theatre. Tomorrow the iconic building will be demolished. Thirty years after their final performance, the Follies girls gather to have a few drinks, sing a few songs and lie about themselves.

Follies includes such classic songs as Broadway Baby, I’m Still Here and Losing My Mind.

Winner of Academy, Tony, Grammy and Olivier awards, Sondheim’s previous work includes A Little Night Music, Sweeney Todd and Sunday in the Park with George.

Imelda Staunton never ages. She's an absolute legend. I've been a fan since Peter's Friends

High everyone out there. This is an amazing production. Just fantastic. I am thinking that if you liked this production (great performers at their peak and a brilliant rendition of this work) you will also love the 2006 version of Sondheim's "Company" with Raul Esparza. It is terribly good. Sorry if you have all discovered it before but its new to me so thought I would share it. The whole show is on YouTube.

I feel kinda like a stupid yank right now. To really only have known Imelda Staunton from the Harry Potter series until recently and being knocked on my ass by the knowledge that she's a theater superstar and a song BELTER. (I also was a moron the same way about Helen McCrory and may she RIP)

Now this is up my alley. The songs seem terribly daunting like most Sondheim pieces are but this is one I’ve been meaning to see for a while. I cannot call myself a true Broadway lover without seeing it.

I saw the original on Broadway- twice. It was spectacular. The 2nd time was actually the final original performance of the first run. I've also seen 2 revivals since- one with Blythe Danner. There's something riveting about this musical that has me coming back for more. I got tickets to see THIS production this Friday.

I saw the original on Broadway and several since then. This is the only production I've seen that equals the Broadway in terms of performance and staging (no one will ever beat Broadway's transition though)

I'm American and I find their "American" accents comforting. They seem real to me. I say in quotes because like any version of a language there are many, many accents, The accents hear verge on 20th Century continental meets standard American movie California/Hollywood. Brit actors are known for their American English accent skills. Australian as well. A film critic said of Cate Blanchett in "The Talented Mr. Ripley" that she seemed "more American than the Americans." In some West End clips, I have found some of the American accents to be stiff. Not so here! Indeed as a fan of "Follies", there's nothing stiff about this production. To borrow an earlier phrase in many ways it seems "more American" than many American productions that I've seen! 🥰 It feels spot-on, but also has the sheen of excitement that seems to be missing in other productions that I've seen. 🎭 🙌🏾 🔥🙌🏾💖 🙌🏾 🎶
