I like this editing a lot. You should do a pt. II that shows us how to determine which waves are better for input and which are better for carrier.

I like the editing. And I did learn about AM and learn to mess around with the pitch of the b osc to affect the main osc. Thanks dawg!

Crow I know it doesn't really change the way people use FM, but this isn't quite how it works.

It does squish the waveform, and that's actually a very good clue as to how it works. Modern FM actually modulates the phase of the carrier rather than the frequency.
This has a doppler-like effect where the perceived pitch goes up when the modulator is going up (when the car is coming towards you), and down when the modulator is going down (when the car is going away from you).
This doesn't make much of a difference when the modulator is a sine wave, other than the pitch change naturally becoming more intense with higher tones in phase modulation.
But it does make a difference with other modulators. For instance, a saw wave is always going up (or down), right? This means that it is always modulating the carrier's phase upward (or downward). There won't be any lower points, just a sync-like effect and a click every time the saw jumps back to starting position.

Again, this doesn't really change how to use FM, but I just can't help myself saying "well akchually" whenever I see FM explained this way.

Either way, very well put together video, I just wish more people understood FM. :P
