This exact thing happened to me in 2020. I actually experienced extreme depersonalization (not common for me) for four days prior and then one day, I was walking along the beach and something just subtly started shifting. I saw the patterns in the waves, the same patterns and rhythm replicated in the sand, the way the wind blew. I remember thinking 'how have I never seen this before'. There was a loss of time and I remember sitting by a sand hill and just marveling at the way the sand was being blown. I have no idea how long I sat there. Could have been minutes or hours. I remember watching a family play in the ocean and I was all of them, the dog, the child, the parents - I felt deeply connected to them and everything and I knew it was all one thing, experiencing itself at once. I can't put so much of it into actual words. I really struggled to relate to people and was not able to function in society afterwards. I lived in national forests for free. I was afraid to talk to anyone because something in me had deeply changed/shifted.
