I have heard that the Taiwanese are well mannered, more sophisticated in language and lifestyle compared to the mainland Chinese. I think that's in part to them preserving their culture under a healthier democratic regime. Their qualities are similar to the polite Japanese so maybe that's where the fondness and preference comes from.

@2:12 It’s interesting how the Taiwanese who have the most favorable view of Japanese colonial rule have never lived under Japanese colonial rule.

During the time of President Reagan, some believed it was dangerous to speak directly to the people suffering under communism, but they were wrong. We need to let the Chinese people know we are allies in common opposition to a genocidal oligarchy. John Walters

During world war 2, there were many records of Taiwaneses and Manchurians involvement during the Japanese occupation in Asia. Does it means those records were not speculations but truth? I’m sure countries in Asia invaded by Japan during world war 2 would be interested to know more about Taiwan’s involvements, that would definitely be important to us to decide how supportive are we towards Taiwan’s independence!

It was Japanese Time, not occupied. Taiwan was part of Japan.
