Presented by asian cinevision in association with Asia society, asian american international film festival has arrived at its 40th year.

As the nation’s first and longest running asian interest film festival, aaiff 40 is aimed to make a big splash. After receiving twice the number of film submissions as last year, 20 feature films and 63 short films were selected to be screened at the festival which runs from July 26th to August 5th.

Among the film talents participating in the festival's press conference, we interviewed Patrick Chen, who shot his film “The last tip” in a manhattan Chinatown restaurant(69 Bayard restaurant ) right before its closing.

Selected for the festival’s special program titled “changing chinatown”, Patrick Chen’s film not only pays tribute to the vibrant neighborhood of Chinatown and the countless number of restaurants that have closed, it also focuses on Chinatown’s gentrification problem.

The film festival’s executive director John Woo shared that the theme of this year’s asian american international film festival is “We are still here and we are not going away”, meaning the festival is determined to have asian americans in the western world be seen and heard through moving images.
