Shame on Temple University. I hope they get sued right out of existence.
If your workers can’t afford to live, neither should you.

Something that is important to note about tuition remission is this may not be for traditional classes. For example, a graduate student, even if they are working in the lab full time, must maintain a minimum number of enrolled credit hours. The "class" they sign up for in this case is called something like "Doctoral Supervised Research". The work they conduct in the lab is considered a class. So in this case, a late stage PhD candidate that decided to strike is being told to foot a bill for the work they were going to conduct. They may still receive guidance from an advisor for their research, but at that stage of their career they are largely independent.
