finally, a tutorial for music that doesn’t just say “play this chord it sounds cool” but actually teaches a decent music theory concept that can actually be applied with taste given the information. subscribed.

Try this bluesy set of chord changes:

1) Left Hand: C3 and C4; Right Hand: E4, Bb4, Eb5
2) LH: F3, F4; RH: Eb4, A, D5 (i.e., everything down a half step in your right hand from 1, above)
3) LH: G3, G4; RH: F4, B4, E5 (i.e., everything up a half step from 1 ...)

Power tip: transcribe the things you like, you will learn how chord progressions sound, without having to resort to complex conceptualizations.

I understood more about music theory through you than I ever did in 10 years of music production through other channels. Keep up the good work man

If you use FL studio and you're not very confident with music theory, you can always use scale presets that are in the drop down menu of the piano roll (that little triangle button at the top left).

Easy add-on for this video - used in every movie soundtrack.
In between your C and your E.
Add an Esus4 (E and A, which then resolves on E and G#)

Nice one I was playing around with a few different ideas. Which 3 and 6 were in seperate ideas. I could include the 4 to try and give a diatonic scale degree effect. I believe that is the correct wording

You explained it very well, and I get it’s only a short video, but it would have been nice to hear you play a bit more.

Raise the 4th note in the major scale and you have the epic Lydian scale. 👍🏻

This is why I need to get back into piano/keys. It’s so incredibly useful.

throw a 6 note on your minor 4 resolutions, it gives it the sound of a diminished 2 chord but still sounds like the minor 4. makes it feel more like a complete resolution than just the minor 4

One cool half-step Modulation: play the major root triad, then flatten the 5th degree, making it a Major-add#11, then flatten the ROOT going to it's new key, leaving the other notes the same (makes a Maj-Sus4 in the new key)…and finally flatten the 3rd degree. So in triads would be C-E-G, then C-E-F#…then B-E-F#, to B-D#-F#. And now you are in the key of B. 😁😁
