Everyone is talking about the beat and the beat is great but also as someone from a broken home, the lyricism, filming, and overarching themes and emotions are actually beautiful and made me cry. He's singing about wanting to acknowledge what's been done to him and get not only closure but vindication for it, while in the video he's sitting there still trying to have a calm discussion while his girlfriend is verbally abusing him, even throwing glass at him. Tears rolled down my cheeks at where he came from being "a dark place, a dark place", "I'm tracing back to yard estates, in my home, where I didnt know where to go", and that "didn't know where to go, go" becoming a repeated harmony in the chorus. "No we don't talk about what go on last night" because the people who abuse you just move on and don't even acknowledge your hurt, they keep living their lives and expect everything to be normal, "your secret kept safe with me and that's right", "now just forget it, I'm not a better man" as to be so forgiving as to keep taking this from you anymore. Actual tears. Also the synth keyboard that sounds like string music paired with that classical horror movie font and the entire black and white style is also just a great stylistic choice. The horrors of being hurt by those you thought you could love and trust really are their own kind of macabre.
