Using Google Fiber 2gig with your Ubiquiti Dream Machine

In this video, I detail what connection your Ubiquiti Dream Machine SE to Google Fiber 2 gig looks like.

Note: The same thing can be achieved with a UDM-Pro by installing the SFP+ RJ45 adapter shown into port 10 and connecting the ethernet cable from the Google Fiber Router into it.

I do sincerely appreciate you're having posted this video as there are very few that cover the use of the Ubiquiti products with the GFRG300. And I need a clarification on what I'm missing. I'm not seeing the 10gb connection going from the GFRG300 shown at 0:30 to the 10gb port on the UDM shown at 0:33. In fact, I'm not seeing any direct physical connection on any of the Unifi devices that I can trace back to the GFRG300, referring to the overall shot at 0:39. And more confusing is the RJ45 coming out of the GFRG300 is white, and the black RJ45 going into the 10g UDM SE is port is connected to the device directly above. Please pardon anything that seems cynical here, I know I'm just missing something.

Very good explanation. I wish we had Google Fiber here in Spring, Tx. That said, our neighborhood is looking to install EZEE Fiber throughout, with 1G, 2G, and up to 8 G plans. My wife and I are looking at only 1G ... not needing anything more. That said, I also have a UDM Pro. Not being a teky, where should I connect the 1G on the Pro and what connector would you recommend?

We have the exact same setup! I’m so glad I found your video as I’m waiting for google to hook up the fiber line. Did you have to turn on “use your own router” on your google profile?

I have a Unifi DMP running 1Gb at my current house, but am moving next month where Google Fiber is available and want to utilize the 2.5Gb speeds. I get very confused with the SFP adapters as each one is a different speed and purpose. Can you tell me which Ubiquity SFP modules i would need to make their hardware work with Google's hardware?

I'm thinking to switch to Google Fiber's 2 Gig service here in Austin (away from Grande/Astound), and this video was very helpful! I have a Ubiquiti UDM Pro (which has a 1 GbE RJ-45 WAN port instead of the 2.5 GbE one in the SE model), but I'm thinking I can get a 10 GbE SFP+ module to plug in to the UDM Pro and then connect at 10 Gig speed to the included Google Fiber modem/router in bridge mode.

I'm trying to get rid of modem and go directly to the udm pro se.

you should use 10 Gbps Optical Module from unifi self to get the right speed at 10gbs port then you wil have the 2g fiber speed.

i just run directly from fiber portal over cat6e into the dream machine (avoid their modem)
