From 1421 to 1423 the Chinese Emperor sent ships to every corner of the Earth to map and explore, including "The Island of 1000 Virgins" that we now call The Virgin Islands. They had people from India and Mongolia and all the civilized places they already knew about along for various jobs. It is very possible that your mystery coin comes from that adventure. It could have been Chinese, Indian or Arab. I believe the holes in the middle were so you could carry them on a string. I just finished a great book about it: 1421: The Year the China Discovered America by Greg Menzies. You may have found (and lost) your oldest coin find yet.
