Review: SmallRig MagicFIZ Wireless Follow Focus

The SmallRig MagicFIZ is wireless motor system for manual video lenses that can be used to control focus, iris and zoom. SmallRig offers different components including a wireless follow focus and a handgrip. Both devices come with one motor each that can be attached to a 15mm rod. It’s possible to use multiple devices to control focus, aperture and zoom of one lens.

The handgrip design is pretty much perfect with the screw mounts on both sides.

I think it’s obvious that this is a prosumer product and suitable for a one or two person team with a limited budget. But in general I don’t really see the point to buy products that is working, still not cheap and will last a long time but is limited and therefore in the long run waiting and spending it on more professional gear is the better way to go.

You should correct your self on your video my friend. I bought my MagicFIZ because you mentioned that it would work for the Zoom ring and no it does NOT! I had alot of trouble getting my Sony 24-70mm G-Master Lens to work with the MagicFIZ, i then had to contact smallrig and ask them if this is not possible and they confirmed that their MagicFIZ is intended for Aperture and Focus ring push and pull and NOT for thw zoom ring. I ended up having to return the two motor MagicFIZ kit and got the single version. This information is coming direct from smallring.
