Not enough tension when you rolled the hair, longer drying time, and most importantly, damaged curl pattern.

Not dry enough. As a former dippity doer, it would probably take 6 hours to dry. ❤️

Hair stylist tip 🙋🏻‍♀️> you can add the gel into a spray bottle figure 1 part get 2-3 parts water shake and spray. Also for a roller set with a setting gel/spray like this we would put a guest under a dryer so normally should be no issue with using the heat on the dryer setting just prep your hair with heat protectant prior.

Hey, doll.. So, the general rules, with wet-sets, are to take sections the size of the roller — and then over-extend ‘em (so, if they are on the side of your head, brush ‘the section straight up [not out — up, to the sky] and then apply the roller to the ends, and roll ‘em downward).

This is how you create volume, at the scalp.

Also, you could try putting a processing cap over it, and blow-dry, to help dry faster — that way, the heat will retain throughout the plastic cap, and the air won’t mess up the hair that’s been rolled (people are saying to sleep on these rollers — I wouldn’t recommend it, because of how long these take to dry, and your length of hair; especially, because the plastic doesn’t soak up any moisture. And especially, do not sleep with ‘em using a processing cap — as that plastic not being breathable could cause mildew, on your hair).

Sitting in the sun, with a processing cap, also, works like a make-shift standing-style dryer — that’s how I process any home-lightening I may do, on someone, when I don’t have a standing-dryer (the ones that look like helmets).

Though, it will still take some time — however, be more effective than just sitting around, inside, waiting for ‘em to dry.

Using heat is not always bad, for the hair — as wet hair is far more vulnerable to breakage, than dry hair; being the water causes the hair cuticle to expand.

EDIT:

Also, pull your curls tighter, and make sure they are 100% dry.

Your curl pattern could be damaged, though, also — lightened hair is more moldable, so, if done properly and your hair isn’t over-processed, it shouldn’t be an issue.

Though, your hair being lightened, also, could be why it’s taking so long to dry — as it’s more porous, and soaks up more water.

It really comes down to sectioning, tension, and making sure it’s 100% dry — especially, at scalp and ends (if it isn’t dry at the scalp — the water will drip down the hair shaft, and pull out any curl, on the ends; if it isn’t dry, on the ends, it’ll weigh everything down).

Adding a light coat of a brushable hairspray before drying — and a light coat of it, once it’s 100% dry, though, before brushing, will help it last longer.

Also, when using dryer heat, on your hair — it’ll raise the hair cuticles, and provide more of that voluptuous volume, sought out from wet-sets (don’t use hot tools — those will smooth down the cuticle, and not create the same sort of volume and oomph, that comes with wet-sets).

I do know that your hair is not supposed to be soaking wet. I’m not sure how you did it, but do them damp and whenever you roll them to have more volume roll under and to just have regular curls roll up, but also be sure to put the clip behind the rollers so that you don’t have marks from the clips so in that case put the clips behind the rollers because the one on your right side looks like it’s gonna have a mark from how you roll it and also make sure that your section is good because that also that right one has way too much hair on it so also try doing thinner sections for the rolls

One thing I learned in cosmetology school was that a roller set is one of the things that will get the best results from clean hair. This is a personal opinion. There is less weight on the hair because you don't have old and new product competing with one another.
Also, put the rollers in tighter and let it dry longer. Roller sets are best either under a hood dryer for an hour or so. OR air dry them ALL day long.

Sit under a dryer and use larger rollers. I used to do this in the 60’s but then I have naturally curly hair!☺️

They need to be PERFECTLY dry to work. Completely utterly dry. Before you apply to to use as little water as possible. Wet the hair well cause the water needs to be in the hair, not just on it. Then squeeze/dry out as much water as possible, leaving them barely damp. Next thing is you need to apply a little of tension when you roll the hair.

My mom used to pull the hair up in the rollers and then that bag type of hair dryer went on and she’d sit down while it dried. Then she would take the curlers out and style. Or she would do it first thing in the morning, cover it and let it be up all day while we cleaned, then take the kerchief off and style before going out on a date night with our father.

I used to do this hairstyle all the time. It’s best to do it right before bed and put a sleeping cap over the curlers. I never used dippity do, I just used curling gel and curling spray. Did this for a wedding and it was perfect. Also, buy the rollers that have the built-in clips that just open up. They make them in bigger sizes too. It’s a lot easier and your fingers won’t slip.

Never been happier to have been born with curly hair. Curlers sound like a nightmare to deal with.

Wetter hair! Root to tip! Try to make them tighter, think of when trying to do a French braid. You could try a diffuser attachment and do low heat and circle around, they need to be crispy dry. Make sure you brush the gel thru thinner sections too. It’s a task to do that on yourself so good try!

I used Dippity Do to curl my hair for school. I slept on the curlers overnight to make sure it was dry. When dry, the curls will be stiff and kind of crunchy until you brush them out.

Bleached hair is the fatal flaw here. The damage prevented it from being able to hold up.

They need to be dry. And brushing them, especially with that brush will destroy the curls

When I did wet-sets, in cosmo school — the ladies ALWAYS had to sit under the dryer for, at least, 20-30 minutes. Even the little, old biddies, with fine hair. If not, their hair would take FOREVER, to dry, and not always style properly.

Just drying it for a longer time with help it work! I think a video I saw of a girl that it worked for had it in her hair for 5 hours.
