After a traffic accident, Kazuma Sato's disappointingly brief life was supposed to be over, but he wakes up to see a beautiful girl before him. People hating on Kazuma for fumbling but missing the point: He fumbled on purpose. He doesn't want to take advantage of his friend like that and take her virginity just because she doesn't want to lose it to an arranged marriage partner, nor does he want to get laid by a friend when she's that down and depressed.

The people who said that Kazuma had FUMBLED at the last moment didn't pay well enough attention because as chaotic as he is, he's also compassionate and didn't want to take advantage of her in a vulnerable state. Also, let's not forget that he likes Megumin more and he actually complimented Darkness.

I don’t think Kazuma is oblivious to his friends feelings. I think he is hesitant to commit when the time comes. Either because he is afraid of things changing, or because he truly would not like to take advantage of the situation in care of them
