Good video. JD left the other tractor manufacturers behind when they came out with the powershift and wet clutches. In my opinion, IHC's biggest tractor downfall was outdated transmissions, dry clutches, and no powershift option.

I really enjoyed this video. I have a soft spot in my heart for these old tractors. I’ve repainted several 4010s and a 4020. My dad had two 4010s, a 4020 power shift, which was one of my favorite tractors. He also had a 3010 which I still have. I also painted a 4010 for a friend once.
As the equipment got bigger so did our tractors. My dad ended up selling all of them except for the 3010, I wouldn’t let him sell that one lol ( I later wished we’d kept the 4020😢). Ours were all propane tractors, I would love to have a 4020 diesel, console tractor, but I really would have no use for one other than to have just to have 😂.
These tractors were so easy to work on. We did all our own overhauls and everything.
I am wanting to build a shop just for restoring these old tractors, for myself and others.
I really liked your 3020 with the factory duals, don’t see too many of those.

Beautiful 4020! I grew up on a potato farm in northern Maine, I remember when the 4020 diesel came out, that was one monster of a tractor in the 60's.

I ran a 1971, J D 4020 When they was new I loved them, one of the best J D tractor ever made

Yes, that will look and work great with the duals. I love the 4020. Nice to see some of the differences right there. Interesting fact about the scavenge pump on the syncro stopping with the clutch.

@ 2:25, the frame rails are most definitely different on the 4020! They were heavier, and the attaching points at the front of the engine block used 4 bolts instead of just 2 as with the 4010. These changes gave the 4020 considerable more strength for loaders. 4020 frames will fit right on a 4010, but if you try to fit 4010 frames on a 4020, you will weaken the joint at the front of the engine block.

Lots of differences between the 10 series and the 20 series, which made the 4020 one of Deere's all time most popular tractors, as well as cementing the entire 20 series as a huge step forward for Deere's Utility Tractors.

Love the old tractors getting scarce like someone said the new ones are heading to the junkyard who wants to restore one of those.

I think the synchro range tractors had a flat floor board, power shift tractors had a hump in the middle. Didn't work well for carrying a water jug between your feet. The power shift was cool, but it would cook my feet in the summer!

To whomever is complaining about how the muffler looks, give the guy some time. Takes $$. But I guess not as much on a 1/16 scale or probably 1/64 scale toy that your driving on your knees.Dont throw criticism out unless you can show what your driving.

I once worked on a dairy farm and did most of my learning on a 4020 gas model.

Some small differences in the front end was the frame was a 2 hole for engine mounting and the 4020 had a 4 bolt...awsome video! I'm in the process of marrying a 4020 rear end with a 4010 front...4010 trans is junk found a good deal on a early 4020 back half

A little tid bit for you... The old oil bath housing can be converted to a dry filter. It takes a little cutting and welding. The worst part is getting all the screens out.
I did one about ten years ago.
Looked at a dry one on a 4020, did some measurements and made it work.
New were still available at the time, but very cost prohibitive!!!
Used must have been gold plated...they were almost as much as new!!!
I think I had about a half day into converting it... Most of that was getting and cleaning up.
Thanks for the video!!!

My grandfather bought a 4010 when they first came out for his 1080 acre farm in Florida. I drove it pulling a 5 bottom plow in 5th gear and it ran like a champ. It would run all day long. I miss those days.

Very informative - the equipment focused videos are definitely my favorite. Evidently our 4010 has had a few 20 series upgrades on it such as rocker shaft covers with the tool box. I always wondered why the hydraulics were shaky starting up but they seem to do well once the engine is warm.

Love the 4020. Grew up on one just like it. We had a 2010 and 3020 as well but the power shift was the one we all fought over. We later got a 966 hydro but it never really grew on me like the JD. Thanks for the vid.
