This is one of the hardest SUVAT questions I have seen, thank you for making it clear to me :)

Hi, this has been of a great help, thank you!!! Could you explain though if we should ALWAYS assume the particle moves up after the string breaks when answering questions like these?

Surely you have to take U in the final suvat equation as being 0 since the particle B will have momentarily stopped once the string snaps?

It was because the question was "calculate the further time elapsed..."

The thing I don't get is don't you have to take into account the time for the particle B to rise up from the position where the string breaks?

at 5.56 why is the u value 0.7 not 0 because I thought if a particle changes direction, its velocity is momentarily 0? thanks

At around 5:25 on the second equation i've resolved downwards. i.e. in direction of movement. So my s is positive as is my a but that means i come out with +0.7t, does my u become negative for this to work? if so why?

at around 6:06, why cant we assume that v=0 since B hits the floor. then instead of finding s(which is -1.175m), we can use v=u+at and where v=0, u=0.7, a=-9.8, finally find t.. but still i get the wrong answer..can you please correct me????
