Interviewing is about creating real connections. After having interviewed more than 2.000 candidates from more than 64 countries, Itziar has a lot of stories to share. Every candidate is different but there is something common in each interview - building trust. That is the role for both the interviewer and the interviewee. In all these, you need to be ready to expect the unexpected…

Itziar de Ros is Spanish and after graduating from IESE’s MBA program she worked in Geneva in a big multinational company. After a year, she decided to follow her passion and work with people in her alma mater. She joined IESE Business School in 2007 and has been the Director of MBA Admissions for the last 6 years.

Thanks for this Itziar. I watched it twice and still learning and thinking: ‘who are you?’

Great talk!! Interview is a lot more than a Q&A !! It´s building a trust between the two, and getting to know the person and their value system...

"Great interview, but we're looking for someone with more experience. Next!" I like this talk and thought the speaker was great, but in a real life situation it's better to just tell the interviewers what they want to hear. Interviewers could careless about your story of overcoming struggles and even though they'd tell you otherwise.

This is based on emotional biased opinions on a person if you interview this way. What about asking if the person is capable of simply doing the job? It’s not fair to base whether you should hire someone by thinking if you can trust the interviewee with the “keys to your home”. I don’t trust many people with my home but I do trust them enough to do the tasks I ask of them.

This talk is vivid example of the nightmare that, we the candidates, live every time we encounter a diva, or semi-god like recruiter, most of the candidates are stuck and completely subordinated to each and every recruiter´s personal subjectivenness bias and else pejudices, I don´t know anyother job, trade or proffesion that deppends 100% on the particular discretionality, caprice, partiality, mood, hormonal, gutt feeling animosity of the recruiter, in fact, every recruiter is a tinytiran, because they have no rules, neither law, president, pope, pimp, bigdaddy, or big witch, that monitores or watch them in case of wrong doing or mal-praxis, that is why anybody can auto call it self guru, expert, or whatever.

Although I liked her speech I do not agree with many of the things she said.
1)  A team of researchers from Old Dominion, Florida looked at more than 600 30 minute job interviews and found that most interviewers already made up their mind about the candidate within the first few minutes ( based on first impression such as appearance). So im not sure how sharing a personal story would help in this case because interviewers already have their own biases.
2) She stressed the importance of forming trust and establishing a relationship during the interview. Well in that case wouldn't the interviwer be biased as they would be more likely to hire based on their personal or gut feeling on the candidate rather than objective factors? And most importantly the candidate is applying for a god damn job not for an application to be your friend or partner.
3) I find it quite dehumanizing that interviewers want and expect interviewees to open up, be authentic and share personal stories only to be judged about it. I once had a similar interview and at the end they still sent me automated rejection email. So please do not do everything that this woman says because it doesn't work everywhere.

Sorry, but this speech is full of unicorn 🦄 magic🌈unrealistic stuff ) come on nobody is interested in “building trust, roots” at the interviews “with 2000 candidates”)
sounds sweet 🥴
“how much he suffered how much he struggled” 🤦🏻‍♀️

I really liked your speech, but honestly these questions are just too personal. At the end of the day, we are here to do a job well and hopefully get a nice paycheck. People at work are NOT your family or your friends. There are great workers out there that have absolutely no interest in building personal bonds with their peers. Especially on such personal levels.

And I apologize, but shame on you for making that girl cry. Interviews are already super stressful already. Then you remind her of such a traumatic event?? I hope to god you hired her after that.
