Anime: X/1999
Music: "This Is the New Year" by A Great Big World

This video was a long, long time coming. I ran into some hurdles and heartbreaks when making this one (will pin a comment with the full backstory) that almost had it DOA back in May.

Then, in the late summer, FicWIP posted their Rise of the Dead Fandoms challenge, and it was just the motivation I needed to complete this AMV.

X is really special to me. It's a series for which I've made numerous AMVs over the last two decades. It's a show I know like the back of my hand. Even if X itself no longer has the draw it had in the 90s and early 2000s, it is top of the list in my heart.

I haven't made a video of the main trio since I was in high school, but I love them and gave myself the dang feels making this.

I hope you all enjoy!

EDITOR'S NOTE: I do not monetize my videos. These are a labor of love and admiration for fandoms I adore, and I gain not a cent from them. If you see any sign of monetization, that is typically at the request of the music rights holder in exchange for the use of their song.

Fair use is a use permitted by copyright statute that might otherwise be infringing. Non-profit, educational or personal use tips the balance in favor of fair use.

Backstory (AKA why this was entered into an unfinished WIP challenge):

I started this AMV on a whim, inspired by a tweet from a member of the X/TB/CLAMP fandom from all the way back in May.

I had a solid concept that I was getting super invested and hyped about. I was working on it one night when Windows restarted to push out a significant OS update. Having saved not long before, I was miffed at losing my last few mins of edits, but I assumed I would just pick back up the next day.

When I returned, it was clear the update had hung. All I could do was hard restart (risky bc of the type of update.) The OS failed to boot. I spent hours going through recovery protocols. Enlisted personal and professional tech support.

I was largely able to save my files but lost all programs and associated temporary files. I only retained projects that I had taken the time to export. This one was new so I hadn't. It sucked, but I had a lot of social media video that I had taken in my editing excitement that could be used for reference. I could recreate the progress I had lost.

...then I tried loading my clip management timings.

X is a 24 episode series plus an OVA. A good chunk of content. I've been making AMVs of it for almost 20 years. I've been editing in my current software since 2016.

I had most of the series broken down into a timeline of all usable clips. The culmination of YEARS of prep work. When I went to load the saved EDL files of my timings, they no longer synced with the source videos. I had the files, but they were useless.

I cried SO flipping hard when I realized this. That's when I truly thought I was never going to make another X video again.

So when I say I'm grateful...God, I really mean I'm so grateful to FicWIP for organizing #riseofthedeadfandoms. It gave me a reason to start rebuilding. This one has been a major journey, so if you are a fan of X and you liked it, drop a like and drop a comment. Let me know!

So glad there's still people who remembers this (still unfinished) masterpiece. Thanks for sharing this beautiful video and the story behind it. I've made some AMV's too in my channel (on of them around this incredible series)
