😢 MILK STEAMING MISTAKES
👇 Check below my tips on how to correct them!
Steaming milk for latte art can be a pain for beginning home baristas. The first step is to understand what you’re doing wrong and how to fix it. The second step to improvement is perseverance and mindful practice.
There are 2 principal mistakes which home baristas do when steaming milk for latte art.
𝐔𝐍𝐃𝐄𝐑-𝐀𝐄𝐑𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍
❌ How can you recognise this mistake? When you are not introducing enough air into the milk, it means the wand is fully submerged and you will hear a sharp screeching sound. Not introducing enough bubbles will end up with a very thin layer of foam, if any, which will hardly make any latte art pattern.
✅ How can you fix it? Gradually lower the milk pitcher - this will bring the wand closer to the surface and start aerating/forming bubbles.
𝐎𝐕𝐄𝐑-𝐀𝐄𝐑𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍
❌ How can you recognise this mistake? If you swirl and look carefully at the milk, you will notice the top layer has a very heavy texture and the milk doesn’t pour as smoothly. Introducing air too quickly or aggressively will result in a very rich foam which is equally difficult to turn into latte art.
✅ How can you fix it? Once the milk is sufficiently aerated, gently raise the pitcher, so that you bring the steam wand further down into the milk (so you’re not letting in any more air).
Drop a 🙌 if this was helpful to read and share with someone who might enjoy this coffee 🫶
