Let's face it; headphones are awesome. Yes, the whole idea of being able to block out the world and jam to your favorite hits is huge.

Of course, with earphones, you can listen to music while working out, riding on a train, sitting on a long flight, walking or just waiting.
But hey, you should be aware that overindulgence can do you more harm than good.

In other words, using earphones for long periods or hearing music at incredibly high volumes can take a huge toll on your health.
But of course, there's good news! Most of the problems associated with headphones or earphones can be easily corrected.
In fact, you can keep all the issues at bay by simply using them in moderation.

Here are a few problems you may want to keep in mind:
1. Hearing Loss
For starters, listening to loud music is one of the surest ways to harm your hearing.
For the most part, people who jam out to their favorite music at volumes exceeding 80 decibels have a high chance of suffering a temporary loss of hearing.
In fact, wearing your earphones for long hours while listening to music at incredibly high volumes (primarily above 90 decibels) can cause permanent hearing loss.
With this in mind, we'll recommend you make a few changes to how you listen to your favorite hits.
Essentially, you won't be wrong to always keep the volume below 70% and of course, learn to take breaks between songs — at least five minutes every hour.
Speaking of which, it's actually ill-advised to use headphones for more than hour.
Trust us, going overboard can increase your risk of hearing loss and yes, it's as bad as it sounds.

2. Ear Infections
Yes, the issues associated with earphones go beyond listening to music at high volumes.
You might not know this but using earphones every now and then can promote the growth of harmful bacteria. But do you know what's worse?
That bacteria can be easily transferred to your ears when you borrow or share earphones.
So what's the point here? Well, it's pretty simple — stop sharing earphones.
Just keep yours to yourself and oh, remember to clean them as often as you can — crucial!

3. Radiation
Let's face it; almost everyone wears Bluetooth earbuds during a morning or evening run.
Yes, it always feels great to listen to beautiful music while working your body, but hey, you should be aware that those earbuds may actually be doing you more harm than good.
In essence, chances are they're exposing you to high amounts of radiation.
According to a recent study conducted by the WHO, it was discovered that lab mice reacted to the radiation produced by the frequencies found in Bluetooth earphones.
It actually caused side effects that reflected cancer-producing agents.
Of course, the research was conducted on mice and not humans, but we still recommend cutting back on your use of Bluetooth earphones regardless.

4. Throw You Off Balance
Got the habit of inserting earphones deep inside your ears?
If yes, we'll suggest you quit the habit for your own good.
For those who might not be aware, the inner ear is extremely delicate, so yes, using earbuds every now and then can easily mess up your balance.
And Just so you know, loss of equilibrium can lead to issues like dizziness, nausea, and vomiting.

But of course, the good news is, everything will be fine if you can just stick to the simple rule of moderation.

Take a break at least 5 minutes every hour and of course, learn to keep the volume low (at least below 70%).
Here's to great ear health!

I am sure humans can tolerate more radiation than mice. I typically keep my volume levels extremely low (lets say between 20 to 38 percent), and on average I don't press my earbuds too hard/in onto my ears. I listen to music but it seems that my hearing seems to be getting sharper. If my ears get tired, I'll simply turn them off for the next several hours. By several I mean at least 4-5 hours. Trust me it helps a lot. I don't listen to music daily though.

"Learn to take breaks between songs every hour"
Doesn't work if you're listening to a 2-hour album from front to back.

This is real, I nearly got deaf and immediately stopped after I knew the symptoms. My ears often also had bruised on the exterior from the earphones.

I use them at like 10-20% volume to listen to streams and videos of people mostly talking and some music but mostly the streams and talking. Is that bad too or a passable one?

I had to search this up because I use headphones at the highest every single day for more than 2 years. This’s the first time it’s really affecting me. I get headaches and my ears hurt that I’m forced to lower the volume. I even sometimes take breaks (which I never did for 2 years). And then here I am on YouTube. Searching for things related to my issue
