Nextones Festival 2021: Caterina Barbieri presents light-years

Fact has partnered with Italy’s Nextones Festival to bring you highlights from this year’s event, which takes place at Cava La Beola di Monte, a historic quarry located between the shores of Lake Maggiore and Val D’Ossola.

Our second performance is the world premiere of Italian composer and modular synthesist Caterina Barbieri’s new live show, light-years. Sharing a name with her new label platform, light-years sees Barbieri perform with a changing cast of collaborators, which in this show included saxophonist Bendik Giske.

The beginning with the saxophone and Bendik Giske playing is like the pain and anxiety and grief of losing the one you loved the most and caterinas synth to me represents a supernatural or spiritual force taking over in a cinematic and infinitly powerful way with the acoustics of the rock faces wow!

Draaimolen festival 21. This. This was absolutely magic. Tearing up whilst smiling watching an amazing set unfold, looking back at a year that put immense weight on the possibility to culturally express oneself. I could not have asked for a more amazing first re-encounter with live music
