Formula 1 drivers aren’t known for scandals, but Jean Alesi
just made history. His crimes are so severe that even his fans
couldn’t forgive him. But what did he do? Drugs? Murder? Or
something way worse? Let’s uncover and find out!
Alesi was born in Avignon, France, to Sicilian parents. His father
ran a car repair shop where Alesi spent much of his youth,
sparking his love for cars. Alesi's father also competed in amateur
rallying and hillclimb events, occasionally lending his rally cars to
family friend Jean Ragnotti, a future rally champion.
Initially drawn to rallying, Alesi shifted to karting at 16 and then
progressed to car racing in 1983, joining the French Renault 5
Turbo championship for two seasons. He won the French Formula
3 title in 1987 and moved up to International Formula 3000 in
1988. Although his first season in F3000 was challenging, Alesi
excelled in 1989 with the Jordan team, clinching the
championship after a close battle with Érik Comas. That year, he
also raced a Ferrari F40 LM at Laguna Seca, impressively leading
for six laps and finishing third overall.
