Why I always bind ELRS the hard way (but you don't have to)

Thanks for pointing out the fact that the same rx can be bound to several transmitters - that's a really useful fact that has actually escaped me through dozens of other ELRS videos! I learned something today, all right.

Oh snap now everyone knows our secret! 🤣It is true that there are like 17 ways to do it, and each user has 16 that are a pain for them. I do wish every manufacturer was doing it the right way and shipping receivers so they go right to binding mode instead of needing the 3 plugins.

My preferred method is to first enter my home WiFi network on the receivers WiFi page and then wait for the configurator to see the receiver. The reason I do it this way is that changes to the firmware happen often enough that not a single receiver I have purchased had been on the latest stable release. It is more likely for the receiver to arrive with a version old enough to not be compatible with the transmitter module’s version. The configurator automatically finds the correct target when you flash this way and the connection to WiFi is a bit more secure since it’s not using the same password and SSID as absolutely every receiver not set to connect to home WiFi. This also allows me to verify that settings not on the WiFi page are correct. I believe the defaults are correct though for FCC.

I beat the snot out of my quads and I think I've burned through like 6 receivers in the last year. I love not having to think about binding. I just have the same firmware on my phone with my bind phrase loaded and keep flashing the same firmware to my new ones.

I just bought some elrs :) i was gonna order 2 receivers from tbs and it was costing about 70 euro with delivery fees so i ended up buying the radiomaster micro combo with 3 receivers for almost the same price now i gotta watch the other video lol

I wonder though, why don't they embed a button in one of 10.0.0.1 GUI tabs to do exactly that.

There's another reason for not using the 3x power on method.

If you have a problem with flakey power - as I did a few weeks ago, caused by a dodgy FC - the Rx is liable to unexpectedly go back to binding mode all by itself.

OK, one can say "well, sort the power out", and in the end I did, but it's just one more thing to cause confusion when sorting out other issues. Now V3 has the web settable binding phrase, that is the easiest way for me.

Don't know why they didn't put a switch on like any other Rx really, but I guess it saves a tiny amount of board space. Though a split pad would have done, ie a through hole pad split into two isolated semicircles. Put a pin in, or a scriber point, while powering up, binding mode, don't, normal mode.

I gave the vid a thumbs up for your effort, which I really appreciate! I've just had so much trouble with a brand spankin' new Radio Master Zorro (my first non DJI radio). The drone itself would go into bind mode but the radio acted as if it couldn't care less about binding with anyone or anything. If for some crazy reason it does work someday it'll be named Desperado! If it wasn't for those oh silky smooth oh so perfect Halls gimbals, I'd either smash it with a hammer or put it in my 25-ton hydraulic press and make it slow and painful.... lol!!!

Thanks, Joshua you've helped me in many ways. Here's something that should be made public. I recently gave Geprc $1, 000.00 for two drones. After only 4 days of flying the Cinelog 35 V2 03 I had to do a total rebuild. All went well except for the DJI cable extension that's exclusive to that drone. Antennas are easy to get but, that short antenna extension wires are impossible to find which means I spent $550.00 to fly that drone for only 4 days. I've hounded Geprc and DJI and can't get anywhere. WHY isn't that part made public? Any ideas on what to do. Can I make my own with the I-PEX connectors?

Just got the Boxer Crush and am excited to fly the cnc AG01 gimbals for cinematic. Working on binding it now-
Working to flash the radio with my bind phrase in ELRS Configurator-- it doesn't show Boxer in Radiomaster Devices, only TX16S 2400 and Zorro. Can I use the TX16S 2400 instead?
