Hands-on review of the LG B9 OLED HDR TV

The LG B9 is a terrific OLED TV that delivers very good picture quality. It is the entry-level OLED for LG and is set to replace the B8 from last year. It also has great gaming features because of its HDMI 2.1 ports. In this review, we compare it to 3 other popular models.

The LG B9 can display perfect blacks and perfect black uniformity, just like all OLEDs. It has excellent wide viewing angles, good SDR peak brightness and handles reflections well, which great for a fairly bright room with a wide seating arrangement. It has wide color gamut that delivers vivid color and a decent HDR brightness, but the aggressive ABL can become bothersome. The response time is nearly instantaneous and delivers crisp motion with almost no blur trail behind fast-moving objects. Gamers will enjoy a responsive gaming experience thanks to the very low input lag. Unfortunately, just like all OLED TVs, it has the possibility of developing permanent burn-in, although we don't expect most people to experience this with normal varied content.

For clarification, we will retest the LG B9 for 4k120Hz compatibility once the TV receives the firmware update to support it.

Typo at 10:13, should be: "BFI on the LG B9 OLED does not work at the time of making this video"

When you watch a group like Rtings do a review, you realize how crappy other reviews are.

It’s 2025. I have owned the LG B5 65” since 2020 when it was rtings TV that they recommended for most people. It still looks good, but I just ordered the new LG G5 77”. Love y’all

I bought B9 BF sunday. over all I am absolutely stunned with the picture quality.UHD Formula 1 is amazing. I didnt think I would notice dif between 1080p and 4k, but you do see it. Details on cars for instance very noticable, the cars look vibrant and sharp. Abu Dabi GP at night really shows the cars off well, and with the B9 the GP was a joy to watch.

Gaming looks great, whilst I am still going through my games to review the quality improvements, Red Dead 2 is glorious (HDR) . I am just testing Skyrim enhanced and have found some a touch odd. My character is in a snowy wood near Tumble Arch Pass. Whilst looking at the scenery and spinning around I notice a sort of white flashing in the image across the trees, sort of a flaring of the brighter or whiter snow in the trees? Not devastating but certainly noticeable

Happy bunny so far

At 10:21 isn't the top left box meant to say B9 instead of C9?

At 3:49, is it just me or does he say sometime with an indian accent?

People are buying 4k 144Hz panels at a cost of $1500 and the monitor doesn't have BFI, perfect blacks, instantaneous response times, at only a size of 27". This TV would be an incredible gaming monitor, with its perfect response times and incredibly low input lag @ 120Hz.

I'll be buying this set in a few months when I can get one 30 day pre-owned. I have the E7 and the only issue is the higher input lag at 23 ms. Otherwise, incredible gaming experience.

Looking for a tv for a while and I started checking your reviews. I will stick with my current TV. All the new TVs sucks in one area that another would be better but the better one sucks to another area. It is a cycle. I will buy a fancy bicycle with this money.

There's a lot of misinformation about this TV regarding the 120hz @4K HDR support. LG support says it only handles 4k HDR @ 60hz, but other tech specialists say otherwise, that IT DOES handle 120hz @4k HDR. So, who is right? What's the truth?

I know there are not HDMI 2.1 sources yet, but could you guys, clarify this?
Thanks in advance.

I just bought the LG 65 B9. I could get the C9 for the same price (Black week, Friday), but I chose the B9.
I had a usb stick with 4K recordings for testing on both TVs. On recordings with palm leaves, there was a lot of flicker on the C9, and very little on the B9. The picture on the B9 seemed quieter.

Does the rear have the standard mounting screw holes available? I already have a large wall mount that has worked for a couple TVs but with the back panel looking like it does, I'm not sure it will work with this TV.

When you say "easy calibration" do you mean using some sort of calibration tools, or adjusting the picture setting available on the TV as in the rtings settings page for B9? Asking as I am thinking of buying the TV, but there are no calibrators nowhere near where I live. Thanks.
