In the middle of Vancouver’s bustling Kitsilano neighbourhood lies City Farmer – a small urban agricultural oasis created from a couple of vacant lots dating back to 1978.

For four decades, their purpose has been to encourage city dwellers to grow their own food in an environmentally responsible and sustainable way.

In this video, gardener Maria Keating and co-founder Michael Levenston take us on a tour of City Farmer’s teaching garden, revealing the composting systems, pollinator friendly plantings and agricultural experiments that have turned the abandoned lots into an urban farming paradise.
