American Teachers Versus British Teachers On Summer Break!

Fr. My mother is a middle school teacher, she went to the school multiple times throughout the summer, for meetings and whatnot. Absolutely annoying, like leave her alone! She's on her vacation!

The sad part about this is it’s completely accurate and for as much work as the teachers do over break they don’t get paid for a cent of it

She used to use my sister and I as free labor each year to clean out the school room, set it up, carry supplies, assemble furniture, run lesson plans by…
I think there might be a bit of a problem with the American school system.

My dad was (is still) a teacher at the K-5 leve in the US, I remember spending several days every summer helping him tear down and put together his room, helping him sort curriculum and the best was spending like a week straight there helping him move classroom.

As a British teacher, I can tell you that personally I make sure I have everything sorted at the end of term so I don’t have to do anything during summer 😂

Yeah. I turned off my work e-mail the last day of work and I'm only turning it on the evening before first work day after my 8 week vacation to see when and where do I have to be on my first work day. I have no idea if the school is still standing. Probably is, but I could not care less. It's my vacation.

My Mum was a primary school teacher . During the holidays she was expected to take down all the displays in her classroom etc, lesson plan and then ready her classroom for the next year. The days were the same too, just coz the kids left didn’t mean her day was over.

In my country, the first week of summer vacation is reserved for meetings and those other things to make preparation for the next term, but then its done and no teachers would be called to move things or change who they have prepared to teach during the time off.

I still help my mom with her classroom organization, and sessions are always on Sundays, unpaid, and a few hours long. Not to mention weekend lesson planning and grading at home. She works for the teachers union to add to her workload. I love her so much, she deserves much better.
