The way their mandibles move utterly terrifies me.

The Chelicerate is underated, happy to see you cover it

To me the void Chelisarets kinda look ill, so maybe they’re older than the red ones and the reason they do less damage is cause they’ve been muscled out of territory with good amounts of prey by the healthier ones?

Chels are by far my favorite Subnautica creature, They are cute (I ended up naming the one in the purple vents Billy Bob) but can be pretty scary once they start waving their jaws around and making clicking sounds. Due to their roar being extremely similar to that of the cryptosuckus, you can sometimes think you are safe when you actually aren't, unlike the reaper.

I really like the Chelicerate! Sure it is not like the Reaper, but I really like it! Its Design is absolute madness and I love it! Also in my below zero playthrough, one of these glitched into the cave before the Crystal Caves. So that means at my base down there are 2 very different Leviathans, which is cool haha!

I so love the design of the Chelicerate especially the Void Chelicerate is still giving me goose bumps.

I will never forget my first encounter with this thing...I had just scanned the artifact underneath the east arctic, and while I was ascending up to my Seatruck, it swam directly behind it, before casually moving into the dark water and disappearing. Then while I was driving home I saw it's shadow above me. What ensued was pure horror

It's really disappointing that there are just 4 chelisarets, as the were meant to be this game's reaper. And if you didn't know, there were 25 reapers in Subnautica

If you think about it, every single carnivorous leviathan in both Subnauticas has an unique mouth structure:

Reaper Leviathan has flat, small mouth with small teeth. Only the lower jaw moves. Very human-like design.

Ghost Leviathan has a wide mouth with no teeth controlled by like three muscles. Abscence of teeth allows it to both filter feed and consume prey that can be swallowed whole.

Sea Dragon Leviathan has an extended mouth with large canines. Clearly designed for eating flesh. Very similar to a dog.

Squidshark (it belongs to leviathans even if it's not there in the PDA) has a mouth that opens inside-out with flexible canine-like endings that create a sort of cage for the prey to be swallowed whole.

Chelicerate Leviathan has by far the most interesting design. Four cheliceries spaced out in the shape of an X with two jaws between them with actual teeth allows to catch the prey and open the jaw in time.

Shadow Leviathan just _doesn't have a jaw_ ... It catches the prey, sprays it with stomach acid and swallows it whole.

Ice Worm Leviathan's mouth consists of an unmovable hot horn and three toothless jaws that converge to one point. Likely evolved that way due to the horn being in the place the upper jaw would be

personally, i think the shadow leviathan should've been the one in the void, it would've fit so much better

The Void Chelicerate doesn't have a grab animation, which means while 1 can bite you the other 2 can bite you after to kill you or your vehicle faster than a chelicerate. If 3 normal Chelicerate were around you, while being grappled by 1 you'd be safer from the other two.

Point is, Void Chelicerate remain more dangerous.

The Chelicerate is probably one of my favorite leviathans. I love the fact that it's a cool lobster fish shark thing. It's very unique.

Chelicerates are so cool looking. They look like underwater fighter jets with those mandibles and fins. While they do have a silly attack animation if you're far enough away to where they can't get you, if you're unprotected or close enough to them, that's you done.

The patches on their body 3:18 probably more likely signs of shell rot (somthing seen in the shells of lobsters and sea turtles on earth), but could also be barnacles-like organisms, as you said.

I can't even begin to describe how grateful I am that I found this channel. You and The Last Bacon are what keep me interested in Subnautica. You two should collab on something someday!

I find the way the Chelicarets kill you scarier Than how the Reaper does.

Considering you get your Back pulled through those lines of razor Sharp teeth while pierced and fixated With the mandibles

Looks way More horrifying and painful to me.

I have more than met one, I bullied one for over half an hour before I got bored and went to add more baby penglings into my bio reactor

The checkulerate scared me has many times as the juvenile ghost leviathan and this is definitely an underrated leviathan

It could be that the void Chelicerate is an elder Chelicerate maybe preparing to die, moving to colder waters to stay alive as long as possible, that could be why they’re weaker in theory
