AVOIDING HIGH SERVICE COSTS ON 2019-2021 DIESEL SPRINTER VAN AND MAINTAINING THE DEF / DPF SYSTEM

HI! Van Bae here, I wanted to share some VERY IMPORTANT TIPS on avoiding large service bills on your Mercedes-Benz of Freightliner Sprinter Van. I am partial to these 3 tips because after 8 years of van experience, these are the most common "upsets" in the service department. If I can share with you HOW TO AVOID these issues, you WIN! Your diesel system is VERY sensitive to dirt and UNDER USAGE, if you do not take care of the van as if it is your baby, it WILL cost a TON to maintain :)

Please stay tuned to my channel for more exclusive videos and van ENTERTAINMENT!

Like MB makes special DEF... use any brand, just look on the label and ensure it meets the DEF ISO 2224 spec, which is specified in the MB owners manual. I haven’t seen any brands that don’t meet the spec. The service advisor needs to go to school...you need those hiway trips to ensure the particulate filter has the opportunity to regenerate properly..

Glad I know how to look after my 20 plus year old Mercedes sprinter as these new vehicles are getting more stupid by the day, Zero DPF, zero EGR valve, zero Auto gearbox It costs cheaper to keep old vehicles going.

Best tip to keep engine repair costs down is to ignore Mercedes suggested service intervals and change oil and oil filter every 5000 miles. Wal-Mart Super Tech DEF meets API standards so it is safe to use and cheaper too. I would say fuel filter change every 10000 miles. Yeah, oil in diesel engines turns black quicker than in gas engines because of soot, so why wait to change your oil at Mercedes suggested intervals. And since most Sprinters now have EPF’s and require DEF use the correct oil that meets MB requirements - like Mobil1 ESP 5W-30.

Good information to be aware of. The “Magnuson-Moss Warranty—Federal Trade Commission Improvement Act” is a Federal law, US Code, Title 15 § 2301, Public Law 93-637. President Gerald Ford signed it into law on January 4, 1975.
It covers aftermarket auto parts in these ways:

You can cancel out the 8-10 re-starts count down meter. All by unplugging a wire under the dash. Mercedes couldn’t get my van in so we had to figure something out. Do some YouTube searches, there’s a guy outside the United States on YouTube that shows this. I don’t suggest this by anyway but it got us back in motion before we got it fixed.

Bae, wanna talk about the bluetec class action and how Mercedes cheated and scammed us for all the charges for services we do not actually need?

This is why I did not replace my old sprinter and will not buy any newer merc. The price of just entering a merc dealer is just outrageous. 500-600 for a simple oil change with no fault codes is f’n nuts.

Actually, my 2017 Sprinter class C had a def gauge in the instrument cluster.

Lol, thank you to the engineers that came up with this design. High value van with all these requirements??? These are not normal maintenances. Please drive on the highway for no reason at all and burn money to make sure the soot dissipates. My friend had a Land Rover with same requirements and he drives on the highway and still the soot does not dissipates. Im sticking with a Ford Transit.
