Dawn of War: My First Playthrough! - pt.1

Hey guys, as I say in the video this is my first playthrough and I am NOT looking for backseating / spoiling / anything like that. Please allow me to figure things out as I go, that is how I learn. If I don't explore and grasp the fundamentals myself then I never get the foundation I need for later play.

Giant is a true RTS master. He created a paradox within the very first tutorial mission and got away with it.

This first campaign may take some time to really get going, but when it does, it's gonna be a great experience, if only because half the characters have the smoothest voices this side of the Cicatrix Maledictum.

I like how grant reinvigorated the RTS no death campaign runs, which inspired other people to do no death campaign runs for other RTS/TBS games. And here we are playing said other games as some kind of healthy RTS content feedback loop. I hope you enjoy the metal boxes simulator.

I find it hilarious that the opening intro's cutscene got so derailed. The Ork sluggas killed the guardsmen so quickly that they were able to engage Col. Brom in melee, preventing him from killing the retreating guardsmen.

The guardsmen who ran away are coded to be a hostile faction to Col. Brom (which allows him to shoot them), so once their scripted "run away" sequence ended, they had nothing to do. As they had nothing to do, and had a hostile enemy within range, they decided to open fire on Col. Brom, who can't respond because he is talking to Gabriel Angelos at that point.

At 5:43, you can clearly see one of the guardsman shooting Col. Brom from behind Gabriel.

I've seen cutscenes get derailed before, but never to this extent. With Grant also soft-locking the tutorial, I have a really good feeling about this series.

Grant you beautiful man. The tutorial made me die in laughter. What a bright start to my day.
Edit: Also, I love how the Colonel was supposed to execute 2 guardsman that started retreating, but the orcs got too close and got him into melee, and later in the cutscene when he was talking with Gabriel, the 2 traitors were shooting at him and got killed by a random other squad.

Ah. I remember this game. It was nice. Dark Crusade is still the best in the series.

One tip is that you may want to install one of those camera zoom mods. Lets you zoom out more. It's nice, and comes in handy when bigger armies are involved.

I reckon do the tutorial off stream, just speed run it to get all there is to offer.
It is set up to teach players new to computers, being the era it was made.

So glad you are giving this a crack. Love to see it Grant.

The tooltips for units and structures are actually super helpful and explain a lot of stuff unlike some other games so do make sure to read them, there’s also some funny stuff in a few if I remember correctly.

Hopefully this isn't backseating, but wanted to let you know you can right click most production (including reinforcements and weapons) to auto-build!

I am so happy! The first Dawn or War series was fantastic. From this game to Dark Crusade, never touched Soulstorm but its in my library.
Only advice I will give you is to remember: It is better to die for The Emperor, than to live for yourself!
I hope you love these games as much as I do.

Hopefully this isn't backseat gaming, but the orks are actually quite funny, so I'd suggest reading their stuff every now and then. You definitely should play a skirmish game with them at least once if you enjoy their type of silly humour :D

In my memory they were the coolest biggest explosions ever possible on a pc.
