Since street snowboarding’s emergence in the late nineties, Minnesota has been a breeding ground for rail riding precision—the sort of immaculate technique to which others aspire.

On Saturday, February 10th, the mayor of Saint Paul, Melvin Carter, stood on the terrace of the Minnesota State Capitol Building. Directly behind him was a snow run-in, a small-but-powerful winch, and a sizeable jump. Mayor Carter held up a framed document and proclaimed February 10th 'Red Bull Heavy Metal Day' in the city of Saint Paul, echoing the sentiments of the Minnesota Governor’s state-wide mandate the day before.

Then the mayor stepped out of the way so 32 of the best street snowboarders in the game could snowboard the Capitol. That's definitely an NBD.

As a spectator with a kiddo I was very disappointed that they did not put one single screen for people to view who could not be within the first 10 people from the gate to see anything. They chose to put the vendors at the top of the stairs (viewing deck) blocking anyone from viewing that was not fighting for position. Great event extremely poor planning for the majority of people there to be able to see the event.
