Mayo Clinic News Network Headline General Mills Cereal

Показать описание
Lucky Charms, Trix and Count Chocula. …These popular cereals from General Mills might look a bit different in the future. The company is removing artificial ingredients from most of their cereals to accommodate consumer tastes. The president of the cereal division says the ingredients are safe, and they are “simply listening to consumers and these ingredients are not what people are looking for in their cereal today.”
Mayo Clinic nutrition expert Dr. Donald Hensrud says no one’s really sure what the long-term effects of eating these ingredients are, but there appears to be a rare risk of allergic reactions to artificial food colors. Plus, although controversial, there may be a relationship between artificial food colors and behavioral issues in a subset of children. He also says because artificial dyes and flavorings are not naturally in our food supply, people should avoid them.
Dr. Hensrud adds, … removing these ingredients is a step in the right direction as it will help people to eat healthy, nutritious foods.
