Remember, switching to your saw is faster than reloading a new axe head.

Me out in my suburban backyard trying this out while my neighbor drinks coffee on their back porch, regretting not putting up a privacy fence when they had the chance 🤣🤣😂😅

I work in tree service and this is called a snap cut. You can drop small trees with the same concept. Make those cuts and just push, tree will pop right off

It's perfect if you forget or break an axe.... I'll just have to remember to take a saw when I forget my axe.

This is a great bit of knowledge to have in the brain bank. It’s so easy to talk rubbish when you have no idea what you’re talking about in the first place. Ignore the armchair experts and keep on doing what you’re doing. It’s greatly appreciated by those like myself.

This is my hope for my husband and I. I want week long camping trips in the fall, when its still crisp outside...and we are just trying survival tips and seeing how easy (or not) things are.

If you forget your axe, you can burn wood without splitting in. Splitting firewood is for 2 main reasons. 1: the log is more fuel than necessary. 2: to dry fresh wood for future use. For reason number 1, find smaller pieces of wood. For number 2, go home and get your axe because you obviously intend to spend a long time in the wilderness if you have time to cut down a tree and wait for it to dry on its own.

If find any wood that's dry enough to start the fire, put some fresh branches in the fire and they will burn with a bit more smoke, eventually. Or you can put fresh or damp wood around the fire to dry out.

I’ve done this before doesn’t always like to work on very twisty or knotted wood but works well with aspen and pine and such

Thank you for showing people this great technique.

Very similar to what arborists call a "snap cut" The greater the diameter, the closer the bypass cuts should be 👍

Man i have been hunting fushing camping and generally just in the woods for over 40yrs and this is something i have never seen, that would be great for those reallly cold days instead of wielding an axe with limited grip and dexterity, saw is so much safer. It also looks like a really good flat spilt, which i could see having other potential than firewood

If you build your fire from the top down you save yourself hours of having to split wood. I've started massive fires simply by breaking branches down and piling them on top of whole logs

Great way to deal with wide green logs, cut half way and "ask it nicely" 😂

Tried this with my white oak and I think I sprained my wrists.

Northern hemisphere wood seems so compliant. Wood from most Australian trees is all high density knots, burls, bends and poisonous, egg-laying attack marsupials.

Everyone is hating on you. Don’t listen. This is a great tip. I often only take a saw and I will be trying this. Thanks, love your channel.

Great tip. I just bought a cast iron firewood splitter on Amazon. It’s like a reverse axe you strike the wood with a sledge hammer. Much safer than an axe if you need to split firewood regularly

This is a top tier tip. Most people would waste an hour chunking it up.
Good stuff.
