Hello everyone and welcome to my new book review. (Note this book was read and video uploaded in very late 2024)

I've not read this author before but the book, being about grief and pets, is also about the craft of writing and the difficulty of being a writer nowadays.

Have you read this book or any of her other works?

Over to you!

Happy reading!

J'adore Flaneur Friday. Thoroughly enjoyed your review of this wonderful book. My only contention, as a dog dad myself, is that walking your dogs is not Flaneur activity.

Sounds an interesting book. Yes yes~~~lots of life lessons with our precious pets! Happy New Year filled with wonderful Fridays and all the other days too! ( i cannot quite catch the official word for your friday, maybe its an Aussie term?)

Finished the book just in time to watch this review ! I lost my dog last may very suddenly and tragically right before my final exams for university and I was feeling really alone and overwhelmed since for the past few years my dog was helping me overcome my mental health issues and the loss of two close family members (he was frankly the only reason that I was getting out of bed certain days). So in search for some companion and relatability to what I’m experiencing I came across this book. Although it wasn’t exactly what I was expecting, as I thought it would focus more on the feelings of grief and the companion of pets, I did enjoy it as the writer delved into topics that I never cared to think about before. Overall I think it was fairly unique and tried to do something interesting and it is unlike any I’ve read before.

I ❤ the idea of Flaneur Friday! Sort of reminds me of Julia Cameron's idea of taking yourself out on an artist date. 🎨 As always so thoughtful and heartfelt. Thank you. This was also my top read of the year. ❤

Are Australians careless readers? I’m not sure, I’m not Australian neither wanna be, but some of my “flaneur” activities I’ve picked up while on the hustling are getting lost in the suburbs looking through the piles of books people are trying to get rid of by leaving them on the streets of Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne (perhaps the taste is different in WA or the NT 😅).
I have found some Jewels in there, but that’s pretty rare, mostly I get romance novels and cookbooks, plenty of them. Maybe that's why you're chucking them out, or maybe that's what youse like to read? I don’t know. I keep meandering, loafing and paying attention.
Love your work Helen, saludos!
