Roy Orbison is what is known as a "bel canto" singer. He could effortlessly transition from bass to tenor. He also wrote most of his songs, including "Only the Lonely" (1960), "Running Scared" (1961), "Crying" (1961), "In Dreams" (1963), and "Oh, Pretty Woman" (1964). All of these songs are remarkable. He was also a member of the Traveling Wilburys, a super group featuring George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty and Jeff Lynn. When the group were asked who among them was the lead singer, the four of them replied "Roy Orbison".

Roy Boy was a fellow Texan from Wink, Texas. I'll be 70 in a couple of months and Roy Orbison was my very first rock hero! He, Elvis, Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins (Blue Suede Shoes) all signed with Sam Phillips of Sun Records in the mid-50s. Much tragedy followed Roy....losing two sons in a fire at his Memphis mansion in 1968 while on tour in Europe. He passed WAY too soon and IMHO never got all the recognition he deserved....A Black & White Night Concert was a start. The man just stood there and sang!

Orbison was one of the very few true 3 octave range vocalists. I practiced my vocals to some of his techniques over the years ❤. My heart was broken for the first time in my life in 1988. It was six years before I could hold the hand or kiss a woman again. My daughter teases that daddy, you just love too hard for this world .

This was EPIC. I remember it when they did it. KD was a fantastic singer. Roy Orbison is an absolute legend. He has one of the most powerful and emotive voices in rock music. And was said to have a 5 octave range. His songs were usually just know for him singing them. I think he was rarely covered by anyone. Getting to sing with him would have made anyones career, .. if they had the chops to try it.
