Seems like a $170 add for a $50-$60k+ truck should already be installed

Sounds like a great reason to introduce a “field service campaign”. I believe if the bed rails cannot handle more than 88lbs. without possible structure damage, then that its an obvious engineering mistake. Put the brackets on at the factory!

What next ? Don't sit on the tailgate if you weigh more than 90lbs?

Thanks Ford! Now customers have to buy extra stuff to use their truck as a truck.

Next thing to come: Tow hitch can only handle 2K lbs., unless you have the frame reinforcement kit

It’s a slap in the face for a company to have their (loyal) customers pay for a mistake they made. The audacity is unbelievable.

It’s not just off-roady camper guys who are affected by this. Tradesmen with tool/equipment racks at job sites are in the same predicament.

So what happens if you just sit on the bed rails? Are they going to buckle?

Warning: If you use a bed topper for work duty on this Ford Ranger, the bed will break. Bed is only for looks.
Ford Recommends to only use your truck as a commuter or family hauler only.

I can't believe a truck this expensive is built so flimsy you need to buy extra reinforcements to keep the bed rails straight with a topper over 88lbs.

I really love the irony of the "Ranger breaks if you dare to use it" video being sponsored by the warranty company that would deny the claim.

Sounds to me like a future class action just waiting to happen. As an average american who has a basic work truck trim level on my truck I fully expect to be able to have a truck box mounted behind the cab spanning the box of the truck that is capable of carrying potentially up to 1000 lbs of tools without any issue. The bed sides should always be designed to be strong enough to carry the max payload capacity of the truck without being overloaded in a worst case scenario without issues for the typical 25-30 year service life of a vehicle. Remember also that if you are hauling a pallet that weighs near the full payload capacity it also needs to be secured to said box tie points and remain that way during normal driving and a potential vehicle accident.

The Ranger has a reputation for cracking beds for a long time in countries such as Australia and South Africa. In South Africa mines don't like them because of this issue.

This is amazing! A pickup truck (I realize it’s not full size) with a bed that won’t handle more than 80# when mounted on top. I’ve had 16 different pickups since the early 1970’s 4 of them bought new. My old clunky Ford Rangers (2) and the older HiLux certainly didn’t have this issue. It must be the low grade tinfoil the manufacturers are using now.

Looks like the webpage Andre was showing had a checkbox to include installation at a whopping $224. A far cry from the estimate of $65 Andre was guessing.
Crazy that this is needed in a brand new truck just to put something on the bed rails.

To install the brackets you have to cut notches in the bed frame to install them. its not just screw them in.

How embarrassing that they call this a truck.

I had a Toyota Tacoma Crew Cab 4x4 with the composite bed and a topper with full size ladder rack. The composite bed kept coming loose on the frame due to friction from movement between bed and frame. The bolts stayed tight but the composite mounting points would wear-out! I took the truck into the Toyota Service and they wouldn't even look at it! They said to take it back to the guy that installed the topper and ladder rack. In the end I made my own bed reinforcement by tying the ladder rack directly to the frame. Good to go, offroading!
