FreeCAD: Using a datum plane to fix mirror problems in the part design that has constraint issues

preview_player
Показать описание
How to tackle a model which hasn't been orientated so it is symmetrical to one of the three planes resulting in mirroring a feature being off centre. We learn how a datum plane can be used to mirror a feature such as a pad or pocket and show examples of a model that has been created in the part design where this problem occurs. We also create a model from scratch to show how the problem originates and how to fix it.

Great videos! Always learning something new from your videos. Just out of curiosity, have you thought about upgrading to 0.19 or is there any strong reason to stay on 0.18. Cheers

I'd like to understand: the body you created and the added block on top and the mirrored block, are all these together a solid, or do they need to be joined later on? Or is that only applicable in part design? In other words, when is some creation a solid (one part) or will it consist of loose parts when printed?

I’d be happier creating the datum plane with reference to the centre of a feature, say, rather than manually tweaking the offset.

Sorry for being silly, but: why not line the origin of the piece with the origin of the sketch right from the start? Also, is there no command to align the datum plane to the center of the object? Now you are doing it visually which, with all respect, is not a very reliable way especially when working in tenths or hundreds of millimeters tolerances. Love your video's by the way :) really helpful and enjoyable.
