One owner for 50 years, this guitar was a gift for a young man who just earned his Eagle Scout. His parents bought it from a Gibson executive who brought it straight from the factory in Kalamazoo. It's marked BGN, bargain, a common practice to reduce the cost for locals in the area.

Those old Doves were outstanding guitars -- the maple back and sides along with the longer neck (25.5" scale) made them a great country guitar -- a few bluegrassers used to use them. Is the original case (probably red plush lining) still with it? I did the same thing to a '65 Hummingbird -- took the adjustable bridge (the patented Gibson tone killer) and all the hardware out -- made a rosewood plug and then put in a bone bridge. Sounded much better but I lost money on it because it was no longer in "original" condition.
