As a Singaporean, I've been to Vietnam in the 90s, in 2006, 2018, 2019 and recently after Covid, more and more times.
I must say that Vietnam AND the Vietnamese are improving in skills, attitude, competency at a rapid pace.
Their airport desperately needs an upgrade though (HCMC)

China is losing to Vietnam is because it has smaller star. Even if 5 stars combined, it still loses.

If we look at the history, culture, especially working attitude compared to the mentioned countries. Vietnam is the best. Investors may focus on the cost, but trust in the government, business/ working environment, productivities, etc. are also very important.

The problem with Manufacturing is, companies move to countries with the cheapest labor cost. It's not really a guaranteed long term for every country.

Vietnam is still a low-income country, we still have a lot of poor people, Thailand, Malaysia, whose income is many times higher than ours. We still have a lot of work to do

there's one thing that i admit that china always loses to vietnam, it's the racism and the alienation in china, i went to china last september, which annoys me quite a bit is the way they see foreigners, their country even bans a lot of social networking platforms in the world, you can't even video call your loved ones, which annoys me when in China it never appears when in Vietnam, in Vietnam there is almost no discrimination against foreigners, that's what I find very happy

Vietnam by itself won't, but if ASEAN continues to integrate economically, they can one day compete on equal basis against China and India as a block.

As a Vietnamese, I have to admit that this is a big opportunity for economic development, but it also has a lot of problems that needed to be solved (mostly from before). And if soon, most of the problems have been solved or made a lot of improvements (big improvements) to decrease the negative effect created by those problems, then this will be one of many advantages that Vietnam has and also will open a lot of new opportunities. Right now, everything is just a chance, an opportunity, and it is still a chance, but if Vietnam by certain methods can overcome difficulties then this opportunity will not be wasted, a "chance" will become a "change".

Because vietnam have no real enemy and like to keep it to themself while still merging with the world. On friendly term with pretty much everyone: the us, russia, japan, korea, india, asean, even far away africa. Its 1 of the safest place to invest and do business.

Vietnam is smaller compared to China, I know it's not a small country, but compared to countries like the US or China it's still smaller. To make a small country rich and strong is much easier than to do the same in a large country. So IMO Vietnam's goal is not to outcompete China, rather it just need to be itself. Also the two should seriously consider cooperation in many fields. Vietnam and China belong to the same culture sphere, and I really wish the two could become prosperous in the nearest future. -- A Chinese guy from AU

I am a Vietnamese. Our economy has improved, but I think we have a very long way to go to catch up with China. I don't even know if it will happen in the next 50 years. Oh well, time will tell.

Vietnam is really integrating into the Chinese economy, since both the raw material and machinery used in Vietnam are from China.

I don’t see it as a competitive relationship, rather a symbiosis.

Lower value products are moving away from China due to rising costs of goods sold; higher value products are increasing in China due to investments in high tech manufacturing and infrastructure.
