So yeah, of course this isn't to disregard every emergency landing. It hurt me to put TACA here since it's my favorite EL but after discovering the VASP 375 story, it's incredible what they did. Those pilots deserve more attention! This short is for my brazilian viewers, what an emergency landing this was! A hijacker, the copilot got killed, the fighter having the orders to shoot down and firing warning shots, going upside down, and the dive at the end without somehow breaking up all played a role. If this incident got more attention like AF8969, 9/11 might have never happened for the role security played here.

I messed up ;-;

This is imo the best EL due to multiple factors
1. The Hijacker killed the FO and held the pilot at gunpoint trying to get him to go to Brasilia
2. The Government ordered the Fighter to shoot down the plane but fired warning shots instead
3. Going Upside Down with the risk of the hijacker
4. The nose dive towards the ground and recovering
5. The standoff at the end that lasted 8 hours

The closest situation I know like this was FedEx 705, but this was a passenger plane and only the pilot was the one that was in control.
I still think all emergency landings deserve their credit tho

VASP Flight 375 was a hijacked flight on September 29, 1988, by Raimundo Nonato Alves da Conceição, who aimed to crash the plane with 98 passengers and 7 crew aboard against the Planalto Palace in Brasília. The flight, operated by a Boeing 737-300 aircraft, left Porto Velho to Rio de Janeiro, making stops in Brasília, Goiânia and Belo Horizonte. In the final phase of the flight, between Belo Horizonte and Rio de Janeiro, the plane was hijacked and diverted to Brasília. The hijacking was unsuccessful, and the aircraft landed safely in Goiânia. The only fatality as a result of the hijacking was the First Officer, Salvador Evangelista

For those don't know a hijacker was mad with 1988 Brazilian president Sarney and the hijacker killed the copilot with a headshot and the pilot Fernando Murilo(he have my name lol) was controlling the plane after minutes he did a lot of manuevers to do a 0 gravity and take down the hijacker and the plane landed safely and Fernando Murilo died in 2020 and never got and"thank you"from sarney :(

If yall don't know this 747 operated by China Airlines going from Taiwan (maybe) to LAX and over the Pacific it started to nose dived uncontrollably and with the pilots and passengers experiencing 5+ Gforce it looked like it was over but the pilot marculisly regained control at 11K feet just before the plane would break into many small pieces and they managed to land at San Francisco with no nose gear
