Joe did not have a medical condition which caused his jerky movements when performing. He was just feeling the music.

Years later, Cocker told The Associated Press’ Mary Campbell that he was playing an imaginary piano and air guitar while singing — the elements that contributed to this unique style.

“That was the frustration of not being able to play, really, ” he said.

Joe Cocker didn't have a disability. He was high on anything he could get his hands on for years (by his own admission). He was known for moving to the music, it was how he performed. Joe did enjoy several sober years before he died. He's British but he was living here in the states and happily married when he died. Anything from his collaborative album Maddogs and Englishmen is just so good. He and Leon Russell were good friends and performed on that album together.

For those of us who grew up listening to and seeing Joe Cocker ~ we love the physical joy of his presence. The more you watch him the more you'll see ~ Love Joe Cocker!

Joe Cocker loved Ray Charles and you can definitely hear the influence Ray had on him. Ray himself praised Joe's singing, which is very high praise indeed.

Fabulous!!! This was written by Dave Mason and released by the band Traffic in 1968. Didn’t really take off until Cocker released it in 1969. As usual Joe killed it!

Back in the day when everything wasn't choreographed and pure talent was appreciated, no bells and whistles.

Hey TNT, Joe Cocker's got a "raspy-soulful" voice that sounds like it came straight out of a gospel church somewhere way down in the south!!! He absolutely rocked this jam!!! Thanks for your reaction too, much appreciated!!!

Always loved this song and Joe does it so well! Thank you. He has always waved his arms around like that and danced like that. That's just Joe. Lol

The type of dancing in the background was called "Go-Go dancing". It was very popular and many music shows all over the world had their own group of Go-go dancers. You need to see Joe later in his career do a live version of "You Can Leave Your Hat On".

Listen Lady .... Joe Cocker MOVED WITH FEELING AND FELT HIS MUSIC - Beautiful interpretations of every song he sang. He was one of a kind and he's sorely missed. R.I.P. Joe,

I love that a new generation is listening to the music we grew up on. Best time ever, 60s, 70s was a blast!!!

I was watching Joe with my dad on TV one night, and was absolutely positive that Joe had some sort of palsy, and my dad was a nurse.

According to an article in The Roanoke Times to a reporter about his movements "Years later, Cocker told The Associated Press’ Mary Campbell that he was playing an imaginary piano and air guitar while singing — the elements that contributed to this unique style .“That was the frustration of not being able to play, really, ” he said. I've heard this explanation multiple times . Watch closely and it seems to be true . Don't let anyone give you a hard time ! Y'all are great . Enough said .

"She Came In Through The Bathroom Window". It's another Beatles' cover that Joe knocks out of the park.

This is great, and he did feel the music. He knew his movements were different, but that’s fine. One of the funniest things I have ever seen was John Belushi doing his Joe Cocker imitation on SNL years ago. When Joe Cocker was the guest singer, John Belushi did Joe Cocker right with him. So, not only did the man have a distinct performance style, he had a great sense of humor about it. (I think you’re right about Austin Powers.)

Joe could feel the music flowing through him.
