Welcome to the third episode of our six-part series on ADHD and Pregnancy, where I sit down with Master-certified ADHD coach and pregnancy expert Dusty Chipura! In this episode, we talk about some things one might expect to experience during their second trimester... and how that interplays with ADHD! Dusty and I both share our personal experiences and cover topics one should consider when you know you want kids! And some of the struggles that happen along the way...

This video is not medical advice.
In this video, I speak about my personal experience with pregnancy, including medical decisions that I made in collaboration with my doctors. If you have specific questions about ADHD and pregnancy, please consult with your doctor.

A soothing menu (like the dopamenu) is such a great idea! I know that when I get overwhelmed my brain shuts off and coming up with ways to self soothe can be tricky. Having a list like the dopamenu would definitely be super useful.

I appreciate your conversation about affordable options for support and pregnancy items! The internet has so many videos/articles about what you "need" to have and it can feel like you're already failing if you can't afford them. A resource I frequently recommend to pregnant and recently postpartum friends is your local library! So many libraries will have groups for expectant and new parents with amazing resources. Librarians are often super connected to their community so if you're struggling to find support, they can be an awesome place to start looking for free and affordable resources!

Prep everything time 💖
I really was more or less finished with preparations before 3rd trimester, and through out the 3rd trimester I was so grateful to myself for not having to worry, carry or do much of anything... And it was kinda cozy being able to imagine how it would be after arrival 💖

That’s why I love this channel so much! It’s funny (to me) how I accidentally set up helpful hacks to overcome some of the ADHD issues, even before I was diagnosed. I literally have a playlist called HAPPY. It’s my go to when I’m sad or anxious and I want to feel happy 😊. I also have a sad but hopeful playlist for when I’m struggling with anxiety but unsure as to what I’m really feeling or why.

I've worked opposite shifts for a long time. I've worked in childcare so I could have my kids in it (I left because of management reasons). I'm currently mowing the neighbor's yard (I'm in a tiny town) and doing odds and end jobs like office work for my church that I can either bring the kids with or wait until my husband is home. I also do everything I can to lower our bills.

This video post reminded me to read your book (before I have to give it back to the library) which in turn reminded me to get a refill on my meds! ❤

Family medical history! I wish I had known that we had a long history of gallstones, which can show up in pregnancy. If I had known ahead I likely wouldn't have been in so much pain the last trimester and a half.

Oh man, I wish I could’ve done swimming, but for me the executive function that takes and sensory issues before / after is just over the top.

I took gummy prenatals - never a challenge. They're so yummy!

There is a topic I'd like to propose (if you are interested, of course), which was part of my pregnancy experience. I found some studies that estrogen helps with ADHD symptoms, and that's why it's common to have it easier during pregnancy. My second trimester was just that, and it was the last reason for me to decide on getting diagnosed (it is really hard to get diagnosed in my country as an adult, and I was really hesitant of that - maybe I am just lazy, clumsy and forgetful, maybe it's just my lack of organizational skills etc. I'll still wait until after breasfeeding and getting hormones to a usual level, though). But the second trimester was... It felt like people who are medicated describe being medicated. I finally felt that the voices and thoughts in my head would almost be gone, it was much easier to get things done, to remember, to think clearly, to feel emotionally stable (yeah, that's wierd, but that's what pregnancy did to me). Until the second haf of the third trimester I felt that awesome, and without trying harder or actually doing something special. So maybe that's something to research more, is it common, why is it like that etc.?

Also, good source of omega-3 is fish oil, that doesn't have to taste like fish. Also crucial for baby's development, especially neurodivergent one

Imagine having to give your kid medicine, at strict hour, when he doesn't want, cries, kicks and screams. It's another level of hell. Taking my own vitamins feels like a breeze nowadays, compared to what I had to go through when my kid was little and was splitting his meds he really needed

This is so cool. I don't mind but... 😅 The "F" word slipped in when she talked about the Nickleback song. I laughed but I don't want someone being mean about it. Maybe I'm worrying too much? I'm sorry...
